According to
government data, 71 tourists reportedly died at Canacona in South Goa over the
last decade. The data was released by the director general of police, social
activist Aires Rodrigues said.
Quepem
sub-divisional police officer Sammy Tavares, in a written document, stated that
no tourists were reported dead within the jurisdiction of Quepem, Curchorem and
Sanguem Police stations but within the jurisdiction of Canacona Police station
71 tourists died over the last ten years of which 38 were foreigners while 31
were Indian tourists.
Of the 38
foreigners who died, seven were killed in road accidents, five due to drowning,
two were suicides and 24 deaths were attributed to natural causes.
Of the 33
Indian tourists reported dead at Canacona, nine were killed in road accidents,
19 due to drowning, one was a suicide and four were due to natural causes.
