A self-styled
RTI activist has been charged for raping a job aspirant in a room at Nalla
Sopara on Saturday night. He has been absconding.
The woman
filed a complaint on Sunday, though no arrest has yet been made. The accused
also sent a text to the Tulinj police station threatening suicide if an FIR was
registered against him.
The woman, a
resident of Diva in Kalyan, met the activist Ramji Tripathi, a resident of
Nalla Sopara on Friday morning in connection with a job she sought. Tripathi
assured the victim a job and called her to Nalla Sopara late on Saturday
evening, said PI Bajirao Kalantre of Tulinj police station.
The girl was
taken to a room in the B Wing of Darshan Apartments by Tripathi and was raped
there, Kalantre added. She managed to escape after the incident and then
complained to the police.
A case under
Section 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been
registered against Tripathi.
