Central Railway rejects RTI application written in Marathi; parties cry foul

DNA: Mumbai: Saturday, August 22, 2015.
The Central Railway has rejected an RTI application only because it has been written in Marathi. The Shiv Sena, the MNS as well as the Congress have condemned this insult to the state's language.
One Subhash Jagtap from Mulund had filed an RTI application to CR on June 22, 2015. He was surprised to receive a reply from CR's deputy general manager Swati Sinha that said the CR was not in a position to understand what he was seeking through this application as it was in Marathi. His application rejected, he was asked to file it in Hindi or English.
Speaking to Zee24Taas, Jagtap said that he was feeling as if he's not a resident of Maharashtra.
After Zee24Taas reported CR's apathy towards Marathi in Maharashtra, leader of opposition in state assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil condemned it and said it was arrogance on part of the railway officials and he would write a letter in this regard to union railway minister Suresh Prabhu.
Condemning the behaviour of railway officials, Lok Sabha MP from Sena Arvind Savant said he too would take up the issue with Prabhu. Savant said he would request Prabhu and ensure that the use of Marathi is made acceptable in railways. MNS group leader in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Sandeep Deshpande said it was evident from CR's reply that despite the change of guard at the Centre and in the state, officials have not changed their mindset. He added that he would ensure this change by taking steps "MNS style".
