A leader of
the Assam unit of the Congress party has filed an application under the Right
to Information (RTI) Act seeking details of the Naga peace accord signed on
Monday.
Assam Pradesh
Congress Committee (APCC) secretary Bibhuti Bhushan Borthakur on Thursday sent
a letter to the union home secretary seeking the contents of the agreement
signed between the central government of India and the National Socialist
Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM).
"Why the
signed agreement has not been made public so far? Reasons if any, should be
dispensed with in accordance with the provision of RTI Act, 2005," said
the letter.
The historic
peace accord avowedly marks an end to the six-decade-old insurgency. However,
the government as well as the NSCN-IM made it a hush-hush affair, and the
details of the accord are yet to be made public.
