Missing nameplates at dy registrar's office raises transparency concerns

Pune Mirror: Pimpri-Chinchwad: Wednesday, 2 October 2024.
RTI stipulates that each table should display the officer’s name, position, contact number, and other relevant details
A surprise inspection conducted by the Jagrut Nagrik Mahasangh has exposed glaring violations of the Right to Information (RTI) Act at the deputy registrar's office in Sant Tukaramnagar, Pimpri. The office was found to be lacking basic administrative norms, including the absence of clear nameplates on officers' tables.
The Mahasangh’s visit revealed that the office failed to adhere to Clause 4 of the Act, which mandates the display of officers' names, positions, contact numbers, and other relevant details on their tables. This lack of transparency has caused confusion among the hundreds of citizens who visit the office daily for various services.
Meanwhile, deputy registrar (co-operative societies) Nagnath Kanjeri assured that corrective measures would be taken promptly. He stated that the office would soon implement all 17 required points under the RTI.
The Mahasangh's president, Nitin Yadav, and city chief, Ashok Kokne, were present during the inspection and expressed their concern over the office's non-compliance of RTI norms. Public Information Officer Pankaj Raut was present during the inspection. All officials assured that identified issues would be addressed.
With hundreds of citizens visiting the deputy registrar's office daily for tasks such as document registration and retrieval of records, the lack of clear information often leads to confusion among visitors. There have been demands for the authorities to provide clear information.
Under Clause-4 of the Act, it is expected that each table in the office should display the officer’s name, position, contact number, and other relevant details.
“We have informed the relevant authorities about the issue and have taken steps to rectify it. The officers’ names, positions, and contact information have printed and put on display. The pay scale will be updated soon,” said Kanjeri.
