CM’s supporters hit out at his detractors, say RTI misused

Times of India: Mysuru: Saturday, 20 July 2024.
After countering BJP with a protest to protect their leader and CM Siddaramaiah, Congress workers on Friday approached Mysuru city police seeking action against activists against whom cases are pending.
They contended that the activists are misusing the Right to Information (RTI) Act and posing as whistle-blowers.
Mysuru District Congress Committee president BJ Vijaykumar, city president R Murthy and KPCC spokesperson M Lakshmana, along with many Congress workers, met police commissioner Seema Latkar at her office and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
Vijayakumar told reporters that a team, identifying themselves as RTI activists, have been humiliating Siddaramaiah over various issues. “But in reality, they are associated with BJP and RSS. They have teamed up with the opposition to frequently target Siddaramaiah by creating false certificates,” he charged.
Some of them are facing criminal charges, and engaged in attacking Siddaramaiah through social media and by organising press conferences. We have filed a complaint with the commissioner of police asking the cops to first detain those so-called RTI activists, seize the documents they have been possessing, and launch an investigation against them. Latkar has assured us to act on their complaint, he stated.
HDK lambasts Congress
Union minister of steel and heavy industries HD Kumaraswamy accused Congress of trying to silence RTI activists by filing complaints against them.
“They had exposed the CM family’s through the Muda scam. Now, Congress leaders are protecting the CM by targeting the activists. It’s not possible to strangle the truth by using police force,” the JD(S) leader said, adding: “Leaving such useless work and facing the truth with dignity will bring glory to the CM.”
