Sub-district Kalolsavam results sabotaged: RTI

Times of India: Kochi: Sunday, 21 Jan 2024.
An RTI filed by Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Government Girls UP School, Ernakulam, has revealed discrepancy in the results of Ernakulam sub-district Kalolsavam held in November last year.
The competition was held at Jesus Higher Secondary School, Kothad, from November 13 to 17. Saint Teresa’s CGHSS, Ernakulam, emerged the winners with 80 points. As per the results updated in the Kalolsavam dashboard, 70 points were secured by Government Girls UP School along with St Antony’s School, Kacheripady. But the trophy for the overall second position was given to Al Farookhia High School, Cheranelloore, who according to the RTI reply secured only 65 points and were at the sixth position.
The parents said that although the issue over the second position was pointed out by school officials during the event, the officials including assistant education officer (AEO) who is responsible for conducting the Kalolsavam did not heed the requests. The PTA has raised a complaint against Ernakulam sub-district AEO with director general of education (DGE) and state education minister.
According to a PTA member, following complaints by the PTA, on Friday headmistress of Government Girls UP School Asha T was handed over the trophy by AEO after requesting her to arrive at the AEO office.
“Efforts of numerous students go in vain and such kind of favour to private institutes from government officials will ruin the credibility of Kalolsavam in general,” said PTA president Ashyu Vijayan.
“If government officials don’t want government schools to win trophies in Kalolsavam they should alert us early so that we can save the time spent on practice,” said another parent of the school PTA.
St Antony’s School PTA president Rose Mary Cherian said they have not been alerted about winning the second place by education department officials and added that Kalolsavams have become purchasable as the judgments have been done in a biased manner. Some of the students from St Antony’s School said interceptions during their performance including multiple failures of mike and sound system during the sub-district Kalolsavam raise suspicion regarding external influence.
Meanwhile, repeated calls to Ernakulam AEO office went unanswered.
