Action taken under Right to Information Act

The DGM of Taraganj zonal office of Rangpur Palli Vidyut Samity-2 was fined Tk 1000 for delay in providing information and hampering enforcement of the Right to Information Act, while the Information Commission has ordered to take departmental action against the secretary of Kulla Union Parishad of Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka for not providing the information required under the Right to Information Act.
On Wednesday, Information Commission Bangladesh chief information commissioner Abdul Malek, information commissioner Shahidul Alam Jhinuk and information commissioner Masuda Bhatti gave this order after hearing the complaint according to the Right to Information Act.
In the information commission hearing, it was proved that the DGM of Taraganj zonal office of Rangpur Palli Bidyut Samiti-2 has delayed in providing the information requested by the petitioner in the Right to Information Act and thus restricted the implementation of the Right to Information Act.
On the other hand, the secretary of Kulla union council of Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka neglected to provide information and did not give the information requested by the applicant. The RTI Act has fined a person and ordered a departmental action against another for being guilty in the trial.
Nine complaints were settled after hearing 12 complaints in the Information Commission on Wednesday, said a press release.
