In a twist of events, The Principal Secretary to the Government (Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms), Munish Maudgil on Friday in an letter to all Government Secretaries directed the immediate withdrawal of the order directing to provide information pertaining to RTI applicants seeking large amount of information during the quarter period.
Accordingly, under the Right to Information Act, there is no provision to seek details of the applicants who have applied for information. All citizens have the constitutional right to freely access information under the Right to Information Act. However, the Information Commissioner had sought from the Karnataka Government to provide details of the RTI applicants. In response to which the state government had ordered all the departments to provide information pertaining to the applicants, which now stands withdrawn.
