Times of India: Bhopal: Saturday, 18 February 2023.
State Information Commission informed the Madhya Pradesh high court that an online application facility to obtain information under Right to Information (RTI) is now available.
During hearing of a PIL seeking online facility to obtain information under RTI, a division bench of the HC headed by chief justice was told that a software is now available. The PIL filed by Vishal Baghel said that RTI Act provides that any person could apply from any government department in writing or online. It also provides that if information sought relates to life or liberty of a person, it would be furnished within 48 hours.
Baghel contended that without an online facility, providing information so quickly was not possible, adding that the GoI has created an online RTI portal in 2013 for the same. “The Central Information Commission also has an online portal for appeals and complaints under RTI. After a prolonged correspondence, state of MP also created an online RTI portal in 2021 but all departments and agencies of the state government have not been linked to the portal. It deprives people of an online access to obtain information under RTI. In web portal of the state government, too, the facility of online access for appeals and complaints is not available,” he said.TNN
