Can a
powerful system be unquestionable? Yes, will be the answer to the majority of
people around the countryside of India. Also, those living in the metro cities
are not well aware of RTI and it’s uses. But what if you are being charged
wrongly by one of these organizations which would cost you, your livelihood.
When the system acts as a barrier to your life and family, that would be the
only time one would know the true worth of RTI.
A film
can be a perfect medium to change mindsets and bring change in the society.
Director duo Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar did make us all aware of RTI
with their 2009 film ‘Ek Cup Chya’. The film follows the story of Tukaram
Sawant, a bus conductor who is charged with a heavy amount of electricity bill
which changes his life upside. Later, with the help of a social worker, he
learns about RTI and decides to fight back the authorities.
The
characters created are like next-door Indian family and the story is told
through their perspectives so that the viewers can get a complete idea of the
situation. The film really creates awareness and makes up for a great watch.
The film stars Kishor Kadam, Ashwini Giri, and Devika Daftardar. The film is
available on Amazon Prime Video, watch it if you haven’t yet.
