Judicial
commissioner of Ranchi civil courts Navneet Kumar on Monday inaugurated the RTI
(Right to Information) cell at Bar Association building here to help the masses
and lawyers alike access information.
Applauding
the initiative of the Ranchi District Bar Association, judicial commissioner
Kumar promised to ensure funds to equip this cell with computers and basic
facilities.
General
secretary of Ranchi District Bar Association Sanjay Kumar Vidrohi claimed
Ranchi was the first such district in the country where the bar council had
taken such an innovative step.
Vidrohi said
the RTI cell would be a useful forum for people and lawyers. "This RTI
cell will provide legal help and knowledge to people about Right to Information
Act, Right to Service Act, Juvenile Justice Act, laws related to human rights
and domestic violence, which are tools for victims to get justice fast. Our
intention is to end corruption in our profession and in government
offices," Vidrohi said, adding junior lawyers would man this cell while
their seniors would help them understand and define law and its correct usage.
"A
person who wants help to draft an RTI apply or has queries will be helped by
junior lawyers. But if a person approaches RTI cell through a lawyer he will
have to pay Rs 50," Vidrohi said, adding he had promised to open an RTI
cell during bar polls.
The RTI cell
will also help young lawyers learn their profession better, a senior lawyer at
civil courts said.
