The Asian Age: New Delhi: Saturday, December 09, 2017.
In a classic
case of the fence eating the crop, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was suspended from his services after
he allegedly raped a 25-year-old woman along with his realtor friend on Tuesday
in Nangloi.
The issue of
women’s safety and security has again surfaced in the national capital where
the law keepers are turning into violators themselves.
Around 150 Delhi police personnel have been
accused of rape, sexual harassment and molestation in the past six years.
According to
an RTI filed, as many as 122 cases are still pending for probe where the men in
khaaki are allegedly involved in connection with rape and sexual assault cases.
It is
surprising to note not one single accused has been found guilty in 28 cases
lodged against them so far, according to another RTI.
Of the 150
personnel accused of sexual harassment, the police has acted against 30 per
cent of the them in which the accused were demoted and two constables were
dismissed.
However, the
constables can be reinstated if they win their court cases. With rising number
of crime against women, it is essential for the law makers to make an
environment where a woman isn’t afraid to walk into a police station to file a
complaint.
