The Hindu: Panaji: Tuesday,
November 01, 2016.
A 10-day
extensive Right to Information (RTI) awareness campaign, ‘RTI on Wheels’, will
travel with a team of experts in rural and urban areas across Goa from November
5 to 15. The campaign, a joint initiative between Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel
(MAGP), the Goa State Information Commission and the Goa RTI Forum, will be run
through a multi-media bus fitted with audio-visual facilities.
“The primary
objective of the campaign is to empower citizens by spreading awareness of the
RTI Act 2005. This will make for a stronger and healthier democracy,” Goa RTI Forum
Secretary Ganpat Kurtikar told The Hindu on Monday.
The campaign
will include outreach programmes in public places like bus stands, markets and
fairs. Informational literature explaining the applicability of the RTI will
also be available to citizens. The campaign is looking to hold seminars,
workshops and brief RTI orientations for different groups, including villagers,
women’s groups, school and college students, teachers and workers unions during
its awareness drive in Goa.
“We have held
similar campaigns in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jammu and
Kashmir, and the response has been overwhelming,” said Pankti Jog, Executive
Secretary, MAGP.
