Times of India: Belagavi: Thursday, August 18, 2016.
The second largest district in the Karnataka state has no Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and citizens from here have to travel 120 km to Hubballi to avail passport services.
In 2015 following several requests, the Belagavi city Corporation (BCC) passed a resolution for a PSK. However, a reply to a recently Right to Information (RTI)Act application filed by Belagavi-based blogger, Uday Kinjvadekar to ministry of external affairs to know status of the PSK centre in Belagavi, reveals that the ministry has not received any request for opening of a PSK office in Belagavi.
The Belagavi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) had submitted a memorandum to the district authority in 2013 asking for setting up of a PSK in Belagavi. Satish Tendolkar of past presidents forum, BCCI, who has been following the case with BCC said that a resolution to provide the required infrastructure for a PSK at Goveas shopping complex was passed in the corporation in 2013.
Laxmi Nippanikar, council secretary of BCC, admitted that there was a delay in putting forward the resolution passed regarding the PSK to higher-ups. She promised that appropriate measures will be taken immediately after the discussion with the mayor and commissioner.
