Citizens group demands publishing of Pune city bench inquiry report

Times of India‎‎‎: Pune: Saturday, August 13, 2016.
City-based citizens' group, Parivatran has demanded that the inquiry report regarding procurement of the benches for installation along the roads should be made public.
A letter written by the group to commissioner office of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stated that the rates shown in the official rate contract of the civic administration are inflated. An additional commissioner of PMC conducted the inquiry into these allegations and gave a report.
"The details of this report should be made public. The administration should upload the report on the official website of PMC, in such manner that it will be easily visible for citizens," said a statement issued by the group.
A survey conducted by the group had revealed that out of the 152 elected representatives in the civic body, as many as 140 used funds for installing benches. Nearly Rs 11 crore were spent on these benches.
As many as 85 corporators installed benches in their respective wards.
The survey was conducted for preparing a report card of corporators. It studied elected members on different aspects. Parameters such as ward-level funds, attendance at the municipal corporation meetings, number of questions asked and criminal offence records in PMC were included in the survey. All the information was sought under the Right To Information Act (RTI).
