Khaled
Mundappilly, an RTI activist from Aluva, has vowed to file a case for
initiating contempt of court proceedings against Kerala State Information
Commission(SIC) over its failure to abide by a High Court directive to provide
the information sought by him under the Right to Information Act.
“The
government is trying to protect some people in high places. The Commission's
refusal to provide the information is a clear case of contempt of court and
I'll shortly file a petition in this regard,” he said.
It was in the
wake of the SIC refusal to provide the details of the Vigilance quick
verification (QV) report into the
irregularities in the conduct of 'Bhoomigeetham' held on 31 August, 2014 for collecting funds to help the state's
landless sections that Khaled had approached the High Court.
And the
Commission had justified the decision saying," Making the report public
would impede the process of investigation or apprehension or prosecution of the
offenders."
Following
this, the HC ordered the SIC to dispose of the complaint by 8 July 2016, as the
latter had sought time to comply with the order.
However,
Khaled says, even a week on since the expiry of the deadline, he has not
received any communication from the Commission.
A whopping Rs
3.50 crore had been raised through Bhoomigeetham'.
Khaled,
though, had alleged 'misutilisation' of the funds generated from the programme
and non-utilisation of the remaining funds for distribution of land to the
landless poor, which was one of its stated goals.
