‘RTI appeals through video conference facility’

‘Chief Information Commissioner and Commissioners are planning to use the facility very soon’.
Central Information Commissioner Madabhushi Sridhar on Sunday said that appeals with regard to Right to Information Act could be handled through video conference facility. He said that a lot of time and money could be saved if appeals were handled through technology. He said that Chief Information Commissioner and Commissioners concerned were planning to use the facility very soon. Mr. Sridhar attended the awareness programme on RTI Act at Srikakulam Zilla Parishad Hall as chief guest. Public Information Officers, Assistant Public Information Officers and heads of various departments attended the meeting.
Public interest
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sridhar said that the people should use the RTI Act only for public interest and not to harass officials. He said that misuse of government funds and machinery could be stopped to a great extent with the implementation of the RTI Act. Mr. Sridhar said every employee should treat himself or herself as Public Information Officer (PIO).
Srikakulam Joint Collector P. Vivek Yadav said Panchayat Secretaries of the villages concerned would have to act as PIOs for the respective villages. He asked Mandal Parishad Development Officers to inform Panchayat Secretaries about the norms of the RTI Act so that they would provide necessary information to the applicants at village-level.
Srikakulam District Revenue Officer Krishna Bharati, Srikakulam Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer B.Nagesh, Coordinator of the RTI Act Nuka Sanyasi Rao and others participated in the meeting.
