Two-day workshop and orientation programme was organized at North-East Institute of Social Sciences & Research (NEISSR), Dimapur for the trainees of master of Social Work from February 4 to 5.
The first day of workshop saw the principal, Rev. Dr. C. P. Anto stressing on the importance of legal awareness as the basic requirements for the professional social workers as they reach out to the society.
The resource persons were Esther Sumi and Lima Ao from Nagaland State Legal Services Authority Dimapur. Trainees were given awareness on different acts and enactments which are important and necessary especially in the context of social work concerned in Nagaland.
Workshop also gave an illustrative explanation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, which protect women from domestic violence such as physical abuse, verbal abuse, economic abuse and marital abuse. Other acts such as Illegal Trafficking, Juvenile Justice Act, Right to Information Act, Special Marriage Act, Child Labour, and Cyber related Crimes were also explained to the trainees.
Trainees were taught on the second day about different Acts on Human Rights and Motor Vehicles Act. The trainees also conducted a mock drill on Lok-Adalat and RTI. Vote of thanks was delivered by Thekingpila Sangtam on behalf of the trainees and the management of the institute.
