Taking
serious note of defiance of its orders, Haryana State Information Commission,
on Friday, took action against two officers of the panchayat department. The
two officers, block development and panchayat officer (BDPO) Pardeep Kumar,
posted at Faridabad, and panchayat secretary Ram Prasad, posted at Behal block,
Bhiwani district did not supply required information on time despite directions
of the commission.
State
information commissioner Hemant Atri asked Kumar to pay Rs 10,000 penalty and
imposed Rs 25,000 fine on Prasad, who failed to satisfy the RTI applicant
despite giving an undertaking before the commission to supply information.
Sources said Pawan Kumar, a resident of Nekpur village in Faridabad, sought
information about development works in his village. After failing to get the
information he wanted he approached the commission.
In July, the
commission asked the BDPO to get records inspected and furnish information to
the applicant. The information was to be furnished in three days and inspection
was to be conducted in August. Pardeep informed the commission that the
information was not provided to him after which he went to inspect records.
"After waiting for four hours, partial record was shown to me. The BDPO
who was supposed to be supervising the inspection told me to go to court,"
he alleged.
