The Ravindra
Bhavan, Curchorem is functioning without a theatre manager and cultural
organiser.
This fact was
revealed when a senior citizen Pandharinath Verlekar sought the information
from the Directorate of Art and Culture under the RTI Act.
He was
informed by the concerned officer of the Department of Art and Culture that the
above posts are lying vacant.
However, a
theatre manager and four theatre managers under junior scale are working at the
cultural complexes under the Directorate of Art and Culture.
Speaking to
this daily, Verlekar said that “the Curchorem Ravindra Bhavan has a yearly
budget of about rupees one crore. This theatre is the only institution catering
to cultural activities in Curchorem. He demanded that the above posts be filled
up immediately for the effective functioning of the Ravindra Bhavan.”
When
contacted the in charge of Ravindra Bhavan Vasant Sawant, he said that the
above issue was discussed during a recent meeting of the Ravindra Bhavan
committee, wherein the chairman of the committee MLA Nilesh Cabral had informed
that it is the job of the Department of Art and Culture to appoint the above
officials.
Reacting to
it, MLA Cabral said that it is a fact that the posts of theatre manager and
cultural organiser are yet to be appointed.
He said that it is the Directorate of Art and Culture which appoints
permanent staff. As soon as the Directorate gets suitable staff they will be appointed
at the Curchorem Ravindra Bhavan, he said.
