Vague RTI replies add to Tulsidham BSUP issue stink

Times of India: Thane: Sunday, 09 August 2015.
The TMC administration's indifference in the shoddy and incomplete work on the BSUP projects was exposed in the RTI answers given by the civic body to the resident of Surya Enclave housing complex. The ansswers given by the TMC officials were vague and just one liners. Residents have been suffering since long as the drainage system is open causing a cesspool. This has been going on since the last six years.
''We had filed an RTI with the TMC on June 2 and raised specific questions about the drainage plan of the BSUP, the expenditure incurred on it and if there was any report,'' said Sanjeev Chaudhary, the applicant.
The TMC finally responded on July 31 with one line answers to all queries were, ''To our question about the drainage plans and expenditure, their response was 'as per plans, the storm water drains construction work is in progress','' said Chaudhary.
With no headway in sight to end their basic problem, the residents are considering to pursue the issue with higher ups.
Residents have been repeatedly complaining to the TMC about the problem. They have even cautioned the civic authorities of an epidemic like malaria, dengue and viral, but all this has fallen on deaf ears. Due to the cesspool in the open ground, the place has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and rodents.
''We have been breathing the stink that is being emitted from the cesspool in the adjacent MMRDA plot since the last six years. Our windows have to be shut most of the day to avoid mosquitoes from entering. We also spent money to construct a boundary wall in our plot, but this has not helped much. In fact, cases of malaria, dengue and viral has been reported from our building. All this is because of the callous attitude of the TMC,'' said Subhash Bahandari, secretary of the complex.
Meanwhile, Manoj Tayde, executive engineer of the BSUP project who replied to the residents' RTI query , said, ''As the questions were asked in brief, we answered them in brief too. Our doors are open for residents who want detailed answers. Such topics can only be discussed in person.''
''Now that most of the project is complete, we are working on a permanent solution where the septic tank will be connected to the drain of another under construction project. The issue will be solved within a week.''
