An RTI
applicant was allegedly beaten and thrown into a stream by a group of people in
Chadoora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district for unearthing a ‘scam’ in
aid given to Kashmiri migrants.

Kuchay of Breinwar Chadoora had sought some information under RTI Act but was
later attacked by a group of persons in his locality yesterday at around at
7pm.
“I had sought
information about the Kashmiri migrants who are receiving migrant aid from the
government. The reply reveals big frauds as a number of people who never
migrated have registered their names in official records as migrants,” Kuchay
told Greater Kashmir.
He added that
he was receiving threats from various quarters as the reply exposed the persons
involved in the fraud.
“These people
were receiving migrant aid from the government while as they never migrated
from their locality,” he added.
Kuchay
alleged that concerned police station has not registered any case against the
persons who allegedly attacked him. “I had submitted application stating facts
of the attack and offences committed by the attackers. However, police is yet
to register FIR in the case,” he added.
He said that
earlier, he had also approached the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir
in 2014 with an application, seeking action against the offenders. “The IGP
forwarded my application vide number xz/PH/14/50 dated 18/12/2014 to SP Budgam,
but no action was taken till date. That encouraged the offenders and they again
attacked me,” he alleged.
He added that
he was rescued by some people when the attackers threw him in a stream after
beating him to pulp.
SHO police
station Chadoora said that an FIR has been registered vide No. 129/15 under
section 341 and 323 RPC.
