Deccan Herald: Mysore: Thursday,
July 23, 2015.
An
RTI activist has complained to the Principal Secretary of Higher Education
Department that the action taken by the University of Mysore (UoM) against the
professors of Bahadur Institute of Management Studies (BIMS) for illegalities
is inadequate.
Illegal
earning
The
university’s Syndicate, on January 31, 2015, ruled that it has been proved that
four professors of BIMS have illegally earned money by participating in the
evaluation in other universities and institutions and hence the amount be
recovered in 10 equal installments from their salary.
Hence,
the UoM has been recovering Rs 14,636 from S J Manjunath’s salary, Rs 9,973
from Aisha M Sharif’s salary, Rs 9,057 from R Mahesh’s salary and Rs 8,972 from
D Anand’s salary since the month of May. Another professor, B Shivaraj, avoided
the probe by bringing a stay against the department probe on August 12, 2014.
Act
of cheating
In
the complaint, R N Sathyanarayana has stated that the professors have cheated
the UoM, UGC and the State government as they have participated in the
evaluation work outside the university illegally.
“They
have also signed in the BIMS register after the issue came to light, because
they had drawn the salary from the UoM even for the days when they were out of
the institution. So, the government should also recover their salary for the
duration of their absence and initiate further action as per the Karnataka
Civil Services Rules,” he has said in the complaint.
He
has also complained against the UoM for not taking any steps to vacate the stay
brought by Prof Shivaraj since 11 months.
