The Forum of
Conscious Citizens, a social organization, on Monday moved the Gauhati high
court seeking its intervention in the ongoing suo motu case of the court on the
management of the Kamakhya temple.
The high
court's amicus curiae in the case, advocate S S Dey said, "The high court
has allowed it to be a party to the case."
Earlier, the
court directed the Kamrup (Metro) district administration to finalize short and
long-term plans to beautify the temple and improve facilities for devotees
visiting it during Ambubachi Mela and afterwards.
The court on
Tuesday directed the district administration to furnish an affidavit on
measures taken by it. The district administration has begun free ferry service
to the temple for pilgrims.
It has also
begun revamping the pond inside the temple and adding more entry points for
pilgrims during the festival.
Meanwhile,
the forum's counsel, advocate Ashim Chamuah, said he has sought the court's
intervention in the alleged mismanagement of temple funds.
"RTI
documents show temple funds to the tune of Rs 10.33 crore have been mismanaged
between January 2012 and April 2015," he said.
