Kerala
Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran has urged members
and heads of local bodies controlled by the party to uphold the Right to
Information Act and ensure a corruption-free, transparent, and welfare-oriented
administration.
In a letter
addressed to Congress members and presidents of three-tier local bodies, he
reminded them of their responsibility to implement the RTI Act which had been
enacted as a flagship legislation by the UPA government in 2005.
“It is the
duty of all UDF-held local bodies to imbibe the spirit of the Act and ensure
transparency in implementation of projects and schemes.”
Pointing out
that it was also important to convince the public that the administration was
corruption-free, he urged the party members to publish or exhibit information
for the knowledge of the public as prescribed by the RTI Act and provide
information demanded by RTI applicants as soon as possible.
Mr. Sudheeran
also called on party members sitting in the Opposition in local bodies to keep
a close tab on the administration and to expose shortcomings and failures.
