In reply to
an RTI query, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) revealed that the
people affected by the proposed Metro III line are going to be rehabilitated to
locations like Chakala, Oshiwara, Kurla, Vidyavihar and Wadala.
The MMRCL
gave detailed information about the proposed project in reply to the RTI that
was filed by activist Anil Galgali. He had sought information regarding the
Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro III line project.
The reply to
the RTI query also revealed that there are a total of 2,464 constructions in
the 24 spots between Cuffe Parade to Aarey Colony that are currently in the way
of the Metro III project. Also, 241 different constructions at Naya Nagar,
Mahim that are coming in the way of the project will be completely demolished.
Except for
these 241 buildings, the other 2,223 buildings that are in the way of the
project comprise 1,544 residential constructions, 576 commercial ones, 31
residential-cum-commercial buildings and 72 other constructions.
The MMRCL in
its response also specified that the slum-dwellers who occupy public places and
will be affected by the proposed project shall be rehabilitated to the Mumbai
Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) buildings located near Bhakti
Park, Wadala and Wonderland, Oshiwara. These MMRDA buildings have flats
admeasuring 225 sq ft.
