Kerala State
Information Commission has ordered Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL)
officials to issue portions of minutes of the board meeting which do not affect
the intellectual property rights and security matters of the airport.
Earlier, the
Appellate Authority of CIAL had denied those details citing security and other
reasons when an RTI was filed in this regard by CIAL Loading and Unloading
Workers Union secretary K O Antony and other workers in the union. Later the
appeal was submitted by Akapparambu native M M Varghese in August 2014.
They sought
certified copies of the minutes about the meeting which had discussed the
Employment Package for Evictees held on August 19, 2014. The main argument put
forward by the airport authorities for denying the information was that the
minutes of the board meeting contain crucial decisions affecting their
competitiveness, security provisions and
aviation security which cannot be divulged in the present scenario of
various threats to the airports all over the country.
