Bhoomi
Education Trust secretary and social activist Bhaskar Jituri has urged Chief
Minister Siddaramaiah to take steps to help children who will be denied
admission to Class 1 in unaided schools under the Right to Education Act.
He told
presspersons here on Sunday that guidelines make it mandatory for unaided
institutions to admit students under RTE quota from LKG. But the data showed
that no child was admitted to LKG in unaided schools under the quota in
Hubballi city in 2012-13. However, 220 students were admitted to Class 1 under
the quota in 32 schools.
Only 42
students were admitted to LKG under the RTI quota in five schools in 2013-14.
However, 549 students were admitted to Class 1 in 62 schools under the quota.
For, a circular issued by the Department of Public Instruction says admission
to Class I could be given only in those schools that do not have a
kindergarten.
Admission
Nearly 109
unaided schools in the city are covered under the RTI act. The data indicated
that the DPI officials had ignored the implementation of the RTI act in those
schools. All students who were admitted to LKG during this period would be
deprived of admission under RTI quota to Class 1 in 2015-16 and 2016-17. There
are an estimated one lakh such students in the State, he added.
The State
government should initiate steps to ensure that those children are admitted to
Class 1 under the RTI quota. Otherwise, the very objective of the RTI act would
be defeated, Mr. Jituri added.
