Rs 10 postal orders' shortage in Patiala hits RTI applicants

Times of India: Patiala: Monday, 01 December 2014.
Local postal department has not been selling the widely used postal orders of Rs 10 denomination at the Patiala head post office on the plea that these are out of stock for the past around two months. Officials said the postal item that had become popular after introduction of Right to Information Act in 2005 was out of stock at head post office since September 6 as fresh stock had not come in.
The Patiala postal authorities have admitted the scarcity in a written reply to an RTI filed by Padamjit Singh, who is the chief patron of All India Power Engineers' Association.
In its reply, the postal department has admitted that the postal orders of Rs 10 denomination were not supplied to the Patiala office despite requests for the same had been submitted to the state office on September 15, 22, October 10 and November 13.
The postal orders, stamps and other stationery items for various posts offices of the state is supplied by the Circle Stamps Depot, Ludhiana. An officer posted at the depot said on the condition of anonymity that there was scarcity of postal orders but the issue had been resolved. "We have arranged 1 lakh postal orders of Rs 10 denomination from November 17 and these have been supplied to various head post offices of Punjab. As of now there is no shortage in state," the official added.
