Aizawl Municipal Council spent Rs. 11 Crore on waste disposal in 4 years

From its inception in 2011-12 till the current fiscal 2014-15, Aizawl Municipal Council (AMC) has so far spent Rs. 11, 10, 93,764 on waste disposal in Aizawl city.
Among the development works that have been undertaken, construction of steps, side drains and retaining walls number the most.
Answering RTI Act query, AMC said that the fund for waste disposal has been received, as per suggestion of 13th Finance Commission, from Finance Commission Division, Department of Expenditure, and Ministry of Finance under Grants for Local Bodies.
On average, AMC spent Rs. 94,952 daily in disposing the waste of Aizawl city; 122 407/LPK truck loads and 64 trips of 207/pick-up every day.
AMC which had 60 local councils in the beginning and later 82,  spent Rs. 2,94,32,000 in 2011-12;  Rs. 3,13,82,100 in 2012-13; Rs. 3,28,84,600 in 2013-14;  and Rs. 1,73,95,065 in the current fiscal 2014-15.
15 different development works have been carried out under AMC, of which 14 are specified while one is categorized as ‘Others’.
Within the 19 AMC Wards, from 2011-12 to 2014-15, 506 nos of steps, 506 nos of side drains, and 502 nos of retaining walls have been constructed. In 280 different places, local link roads including those damaged by landslips have also been renovated. Besides, chequered tile have been laid in 182 different places, and spring water point constructed in 103 places.
Local councils have so far carried out renovation of bazar and community hall in 78 different places; footpath constructed in  83 places;  Footpath railing in 72 places;  waiting shed in 49 places; Public toilet in 13 places; bridge in 26 places; and 11 playgrounds renovated.
