A 20-year-old
woman forest guard has accused the deputy conservator of forests (DCF),
Bhilwara, of molestation and sexual harassment. The guard, a Muslim, has
alleged that the officer, Roop Narayan Meena, also threatened to get her out of
the job if she filed any complaint against him.
The woman has
made these allegations in her written complaint to senior forest department
officers, besides Bhilwara superintendent of police and NGO Mahila Evam Bal
Chetna Samiti. She has been working as forest guard for about six months, and
is presently posted at the forest office in Shastri Nagar area here under
Meena.
The DCF, she
alleged, sought sexual favours from her and when she protested, he threatened
her to ruin her professionally. “DCF sought sexual favours from me. I
protested, but he called me on my phone in night. Out of shame I didn’t tell
this to anybody. But he again created troubles for me. He molested me and
threatened me with dire consequences,” she told media persons.
Meena,
however, dismissed the allegations, saying the illegal mining lobby was using
her as “a tool” to stop his activity against them.
Forest
department officers from Ajmer are probing the case, though they have refused
to speak anything on the issue.
Superintendent
of police Raghvendra Suhas said assistant SP (city) Anand Sharma was inquiring
into the matter at his level and they were awaiting the forest department’s
probe report to file a case against the accused.
Mahila Evam
Bal Chetna Samiti chairperson Tara Ahluwalia said the girl came to her office
and narrated her story two days ago. She said she was trying to meet with
Bhilwara SP.
“We are also
filing an application under RTI rules about the action taken by the
departmental committee which is framed to look after the harassment of woman at
workplace,” she added.
