State
information commissioner P Vijay Babu said that they would inquire into the
status of RTI applications in major
cities across the state to bring transparency in the governance.
The
commissioner told newsmen at the Collectorate here Monday that every citizen
was entitled to know the status of developmental activities undertaken by the
government. “Out of 7,500 applications filed, we were able to upload details
concerning 6,050 applications that were disposed of and we will upload the
remaining 1,450 applications’ details soon,” he added.
He said that
the RTI Act could be used effectively to improve the accountability and
transparency in governance, and added that they were planning to conduct
programmes in various colleges to create awareness on the Right to Information
Act.
