Youthnet- Changing The Dynamics Of Young Nagas :Right To Information Campaign

Nagaland Post: Monday, June 24, 2013.
YouthNet has been instrumental in introducing the Right to Information (RTI) in Nagaland. The RTI Campaign has been taken up with the objective to empower young people to use it as a tool to check corruption and bring about transparency and accountability in the system.
Since August 2006, a series of workshops and awareness campaigns on RTI have been conducted by YouthNet all over the State in partnership with various NGOs, students unions, churches, colleges, youth groups and government departments, reaching out to more than ten thousand youths. In 2008, YouthNet conducted RTI Public Hearing/Social Auditing in Suruhuto, Pfutsuro, Pughoboto and Chizami, focusing on four areas namely; schools, health centres, electricity and road. This was followed by public hearing in Kohima in 2011 which was facilitated by Arvind Kejriwal. In 2012, in partnership with Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Kohima, the “Youth for transparency and good governance”, campaign was initiated which was headed by Kuovi Belho, (Masters in Social Work) and assisted by 20 students from colleges in Kohima called the YouthNet Young Ambassadors. RTI division is headed by Joshua Sheqi (Lawyer) and Lydia Yeptho (Lawyer).
