Top
government functionaries can meet their friends or guests in their offices
without having fear of disclosing such meetings under the Right To Information
(RTI) Act, according to a Central Information Commission (CIC) ruling.
The order
came in relation to information sought by Sunil Kumar Mishra of Nagpur,
regarding persons meeting former president Pratibha Patil in Rashtrapati
Bhawan.
The Bhawan
refused saying it was personal information and could not be disclosed under the
RTI. Upholding the Rashtrapati Bhawan decision, chief information commissioner
Satyananda Mishra said if some “individual citizens meet the President on a
person-to-person basis, there is no reason why the details should be placed in
public domain.”
Mishra also
upheld the view of Rashtrapati Bhawan in another case related to Patil where
the officials said there was no record of pending files when she demitted
office in July 2012.
