Times of India: Panaji: Wednesday,
June 19, 2013.
Registering
their protest, RTI activists and concerned citizens under the banner of Goa
Right To Information (RTI) Forum held a dharna in Panaji highlighting the
non-appointment of the state information commissioner and the chief information
commissioner in the state.
Activists
resolved to write a letter to chief minister Manohar Parrikar demanding
immediate appointment of the officers and will also seek the reason for the
delay. They criticized the chief minister for talking of transparency while the
administration is working in the opposite direction. Agitators included
lawyers, including Mahesh Naik, trade union leader Christopher Fonseca and
activist Rajan Ghate.
Aires
Rodrigues, executive member of the forum, said, "If the chief minister
does not revert by next week, we will start an agitation across Goa. Parrikar
is also trying to monitor and target applicants by demanding particulars of the
applicants and such a leader cannot stand for transparency. RTI is a crucial
statutory body and has always helped in giving justice. Therefore, competent,
qualified officers must be appointed at the earliest."
Vice
president Rui Ferreira, said, "We appeal to Parrikar to appoint the
officers and increase the space for the officers chambers."
