RTI activist seeks information on Chinese incursion

RTI Activist Deepak Sharma has filed an RTI application to Ministry of Home Affairs asking information regarding the Chinese intrusion into Ladakh to know the Government of India’s stand on Chinese intrusion into the Indian territory.
As per a press release, Sharma said that from the last few days, on one hand it has been widely reported that the Chinese army had intruded 19 kms deep inside Indian territory which is a very serious concern and on the other hand Prime Minister terms it as a ‘Local Issue’.
Furthermore Home Minister Shushil Kumar Shinde has termed the intruded land as ‘No Man’s Land’, Press release added.
‘People wants to know the truth as they have the right to be informed’, said Deepak. In his RTI application, the activist has asked the government about the total area that has reportedly been intruded by the Chinese Army and whether the intruded territory is ‘No Man’s Land’ as said by the Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
Stating purpose behind filing the RTI application, the activist cleared that his intention is to get the information as well as to sensitize those at the helm of affairs about the sensitivity of the issue.
It is the duty of government to provide information to its citizens regarding this serious issue of national interest, he said.
The activist has also submitted that since the asked information concerns the life and liberty, hence the application has been filed under Life and Liberty Clause of the RTI Act.
It is pertinent to mention here that under the Life and Liberty clause of the RTI act, the Public Information Officer has to provide information to the applicant within 48 hours after receiving the RTI application.
