Indore: Sunday, May 19, 2013.
The Board of
Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) should
be brought under the purview of Right to Information Act, Congress national
secretary Pankaj Sharma demanded.
Sharma said
that an inquiry should be held into the working of the IPL which was giving
India a bad name.
Earlier, during
an interview with CNN-IBN, N Srinivasan, President of BCCI was asked about lack
of transparency in the affairs of the Board and BCCI being brought under the
purview of RTI. Srinivasan responded by saying, “BCCI is a private
organisation. We oppose the Sports Bill [which includes bringing BCCI under
RTI] for certain clauses in it.”
The AICC
secretary told reporters on Saturday that the Board of Control for Cricket in
India, IPL and the companies associated with it should be brought under the RTI
act purview.
