Terming RTI a
powerful tool in rooting out corruption, Rajasthan Chief Minister today said
his government has taken several steps to ensure hassle-free and speedy
disposal of applications under the act.
Speaking
after inaugurating the new state information commission (SIC) building, Gehlot
said of the 72,000 RTI applications is received, the SIC provided the sought
information in 68,000 cases.
Noting that
the RTI Act has created an atmosphere in favour of transparency in the society,
the Chief Minister suggested a mechanism for proper maintenance of public
records to ensure an effective implementation of the Act.
Chief
Information Commissioner T Srinivasan was also present on the occasion.
