RTI is powerful weapon to eradicate corruption: Rajasthan CM

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that to corruption should be eradicated in the public interest and Right to Information is a powerful weapon to remove corruption. It has helped in opening the layers of corruption in the country, he said.
Gehlot was addressing the gathering here at HCM RIPA premise after inaugurating the newly constructed building of the Rajasthan Information Commission. The new building of RIC has been constructed by RSRDC on 2500 square meters costing Rs. 5 crores. The foundation stone of the building was also laid by the Chief Minister in October 2012.
The Chief Minister said Rajasthan is the first State in the country to implement Right to Information in the year 2000 and later on the Centre brought RTI Act and implemented it. Shri Gehlot on the suggestion to bring Public Record Act for the effective implementation of the RTI given by the Chief Information Commissioner of State Information Commission, said the Commission should prepare a model of the Act and send it to the State Government.
The Chief Minister said our former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi during the Convention in Bombay in 1985 had strongly condemned the corruption and he had vowed to eradicate the corruption.  He said to eradicate corruption UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi had suggested five points in Burari convention and the then Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee had included these five points in the Union Budget and later on these points were included in the State Budget also, he said.
Gehlot said corruption should be removed in the public interest. He said the money earned by corruption destroys happiness of the family of the person who makes earning by corruption. Quoting the lines of a judgement given by the bench of Justice Deepak Mishra and Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan of Supreme Court he said, corruption which is prevalent today is hindering the bone structure of the country’s economy.
Gehlot expressed his pleasure over the fact that out of 72,000 applications received by the Rajasthan Information Commission information was made available to 68,000 applicants.
In the beginning the Chief Information Commissioner of Rajasthan Information Commission Shri T. Srinivasan welcomed the guests and gave suggestion to make Public Record Act for the effective implementation of RTI. He also suggested that special selection rules should be made for providing work force to the Commission. He also made suggestion regarding appointment of a nodal officer for the effective implementation of RTI, Right to Hearing and Public Service Guarantee Act.
Urban Development and LSG Minister Shri Shanti Dhariwal, Jaipur MP Dr. Mahesh Joshi, MP Shri Ashq Ali Tak, Deputy Chairman of Rajasthan Foundation Shri Rajiv Arora, Chairman of Jodhpur Development Authority Shri Rajendra Singh Solanki, Former CIC of Rajasthan Shri M. D. Korani, ACS GAD Shri C. M. Meena and others were present in the programme.
