A second year
MSc Statistics student of Lucknow University, Utkarsh Srivastava, lodged a
complaint with the police accusing a teacher of misbehaving and detaining him.
The complaint was lodged a day after the spat between the student and the
teacher on the issue of seeing evaluated answer copies under the Right To
Information (RTI) Act. The student had taken admission in LU in 2011 after he
had moved an RTI plea regarding "anomalies" in the admission process.
The student
alleged that the teacher Rajeev Pandey, member of the admission committee in
2011, had been harassing him over the past two years. "The teacher had
asked me to withdraw the RTI application wherein I have sought details about
the admission process," said Utkarsh. He alleged that Pandey had
threatened him to such an extent that he had to withdraw his RTI application.
"I was waiting for my final semester result. In February, I moved an
application under RTI seeking information on the admission process,'' said the
student. He alleged that it was for this reason that the teacher vented out his
anger on him on Monday when he went to see his evaluated answer copy.
Denying the
allegations, Pandey said, "The student misbehaved with me and with the
examiner who evaluated his copy.'' On Monday, there was a verbal spat between
the student and teacher after which Utkarsh called up the examiner after he
identified his signature on the answer copy. The student then threatened the
examiner following which the examiner reported the matter to the head of the
department. The student was called by the head, Aqil Ahmed, who is also the
controller of examinations. But there too heated arguments ensued. To restore
normalcy, Ahmed called the proctorial board. The student was let off after he
apologised for his behaviour.
