Nationalist
Congress party (NCP) on Monday questioned the grounds on which applications of
three retired judges who applied for the Goa Lokayukta post had been rejected
and another set of three names considered.
NCP chief
spokesperson Trajano D'Mello, addressing a press conference, said that as per
information obtained under the RTI Act, retired Delhi high court judge, Justice
H R Malhotra, and two retried Kerala high court judges, Justices Sasidharan
Nambiar and M Ramchandran had applied for the post of Lokayukta.
He said when
the three had applied, the government appointed a search committee which shortlisted
three other names - retired Bombay high court judge, Justice V R Kingaonkar, as
well as two retired Supreme Court judges - Justice P Ravindran and Justice B
Sudarshan Reddy.
Stating the
search committee comprised the chief secretary, law secretary and advocate
general, D'Mello wondered whether they would decide corruption cases filed
against selection committee members.
