New Delhi: The Central Information Commission has directed the vigilance department of the Delhi government to make public details of all pending cases lying with it on its web site.
The case relates to an official of Delhi Jal Board who was not paid his dues because his inquiry was pending with the vigilance department for last five years.
The official Chand Ram filed an RTI application with the Board seeking details of his pending dues but was told that any action could be taken on his file only after vigilance department clears it.
"It is indeed a very sad comment on the Vigilance Department which takes five years to give its recommendations on the matter of unauthorized absence of a 'beldar'. If a Vigilance Department takes five years to give appropriate recommendations in a matter of this nature it is doubtful if the department is doing any useful work at all," Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi said.
The Commission under its powers under Section 19(8)(a) of the RTI Act directs the Vigilance Department to put up information about cases lying with it in the following on the website of he Department, Gandhi said instructing the department to complete the process before November 30.
