Inquiry into CWG is to reach "right" conclusion: Ex CAG

Former Comptroller and Auditor General V K Shunglu on Friday said the aim of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-appointed Committee to probe Commonwealth Games related irregularities was to arrive at "right conclusions'.

"This is not about the authorities. This is about reaching to the right conclusion," Shunglu told news channels while commenting on the multiplicity of the probe ordered by different independent agencies like CVC, CBI, ED and Income Tax Department.

"It is for the government to define the inquiry and for me to conduct it...It is very difficult to say anything at this stage," he said.

The Prime Minister had on October 15 appointed a high-level committee headed by Shunglu to go into allegations of corruption related to the mega sporting event held here between October 3-14.

The committee will submit its report to the Prime Minister within three months time.

In reply to an RTI application filed by PTI, the CVC had given details of 22 projects worth several crores executed by different government agencies where discrepancies have been detected, excluding the previous 16 which had come under the scanner earlier for alleged financial and administrative discrepancies.

Out of the total of 22 projects being probed by CVC, six were carried out by the Sports Ministry, four by Delhi Development Authority, three by Games Organising Committee and two each by Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Central Public Works Department.

One work each relating to the Department of Commerce, Indian Meteorological Department and New Delhi Municipal Council is also being probed, the RTI reply said.

The matter regarding alleged manipulation of tenders by Indian Meteorological Department and its senior officers is under investigation by CVC, it said.
