Media Nama: Delhi: Friday, 25 July 2025.
On July
9, the Delhi High Court (HC) rejected a petition from a number of journalists
who sought public access to the proceedings of the Central Information
Commission (CIC) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The petitioners had
asked the HC to direct the CIC to allow citizens, including journalists, to
attend the CIC hearings, whether physically or virtually, without needing prior
approval or special permission. However, the court rejected this petition,
asking them to instead approach the CIC and ordered the Commission to decide on
the request.
MediaNama journalist Aakriti Bansal interviewed Saurav Das, a journalist and one of the petitioners in the case, on his experience with filing RTIs and the importance of transparent governance in a democracy.
