Kerala honoured for excellence in transparency and public accountability

The Hindu: Kochi: Saturday, 14 December 2024.
Kerala has been recognised as a leader in transparency, public accountability, and the dissemination of information, Chief Information Commissioner Hiralal Samariya said.
Speaking at the National RTI Award ceremony, where Kerala’s State Information Commissioner A.A. Hakkim was presented with the award, Mr. Samariya lauded Kerala as a model State for its “exemplary performance in resolving RTI petitions efficiently and effectively.”
He said that the State’s achievements in implementing social-welfare schemes, like providing pensions to diverse sections of society, and its proactive promotion of the RTI Act among the public, were laudable. Mr. Hakkim was commended for his judgments which “significantly expanded the scope and application of the RTI Act,” his innovative initiatives like the establishing of RTI Clubs on campuses to foster legal awareness among youth and his contributing to a more informed and empowered society. Mr. Samariya further emphasised the importance of timely justice delivery.
