Fight over RTI query led to NCP neta murder: Cops

Times of India: Mumbai: Monday, 7 October 2024.
A scuffle over the issue of Right to Information (between the deceased Sachin Kurmi, who was affiliated with NCP Ajit Pawar faction, and the three accused) led to Kurmi's murder. Police sources said that besides the RTI issue, they are also exploring if there is any political angle to the murder.
Sachin Kurmi, also known as Munna, a 46-year-old, was stabbed to death metres away from his house in BycullaSaturday morning. Kurmi was taluka president of NCP in Byculla Vidhan Sabha constituency. Kurmi was seriously injured and was rushed to JJ hospital, where he was declared dead. The Byculla police registered a murder case and started the probe.
Sources said the murder was exceptionally brutal, with severe injuries.
There are unconfirmed reports that the deceased had lodged a complaint and sought information under RTI Act against two of the accused. The police, early Sunday morning, arrested three persons Anand Kale alias Kalya, 39, Patkar, and Vijay Kakde alias Satya. While Kale has nine offences of assault, stabbing, and attempted murder in Byculla, Agripada, Mankhurd, and Dharavi, Kakde has an assault and threatening case registered at Byculla, and Patkar is involved in two attempted murders and assault cases.
