In a significant stride towards increased transparency and accountability, the Chhattisgarh high court Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha launched the RTI Online Web Portal dedicated to the Right to Information (RTI). The web portal was launched for the high court of Chhattisgarh and the District Judiciary of the state, marking a new era in citizen empowerment through digitised access to information.
The portal promises to simplify and streamline the RTI process, offering features such as online filing, which allows citizens to submit RTI applications directly through the platform, thereby eliminating the need for physical visits to offices. Real-time tracking of the application status ensures that users are kept informed, promoting transparency and accountability throughout the process. Additionally, the portal facilitates online payment of fees, expediting the processing of RTI applications.
The Chief Justice emphasised the critical role that access to information plays in empowering citizens to engage meaningfully in governance. He highlighted the transformative impact of the Right to Information Act, 2005, describing it as a landmark legislation that equips citizens with a legal right to access information held by public authorities. The Chief Justice articulated his vision for the newly launched RTI Online Web Portal as a significant milestone on the path to enhanced transparency, stating that it is poised to revolutionise the interaction between citizens and public authorities.
The Chief Justice expressed his belief that this innovative digital initiative will not only empower citizens to hold public officials accountable but also foster good governance and nurture a more transparent and responsive administration. By providing a centralised platform for RTI processes, the portal is set to enhance citizen engagement and ensure that public authorities remain answerable to the people they serve.
