Times of India: Patiala: Saturday, 10 August 2024.
More than a month after he was awarded a Rs 10,0000 compensation by Punjab State Information Commission for not getting information filed under RTI Act, a Patran resident has claimed that he was yet to be paid the money.
Punjab State Information Commission (SIC) had levied a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the block development and panchayat officer (BDPO) of Patran in Patiala district for failing to furnish information to an RTI applicant within stipulated 30 days. The commission had awarded a compensation of Rs 10,000 to the complainant, Sukhdev Singh, to be disbursed by the office of the BDPO of Patran within 30 days of receiving the order.
In July last year, Patran resident Sukhdev Singh had filed a right to information (RTI) application with the BDPO, seeking details of funds allocated to the gram panchayat of Gurdipura village.
On June 25, SIC imposed the fine on the BDPO who was in office at the time of the RTI submission. The commission directed that the penalty be deducted from the BDPO's salary and deposited into Punjab govt treasury. Patran BDPO Baljeet Kaur could not be contacted for comment despite repeated attempts.
