Subhash Soni is a former information commissioner and, according to the Commission website, his term had ended in September last year.
Subhash Soni will replace
Amrut Patel as the next Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Gujarat, the
state government said in an official statement Friday. The government has also
notified the appointment of three information commissioners Manoj Patel, Nikhil
Bhatt and Subramaniam Iyer in the state.
The appointments have come days ahead of the incumbent CIC’s term ending on July 29. Amrut Patel has been the only information commissioner at the Commission from this April when information commissioner Ramesh Karia’s term ended.
Soni is a former information commissioner and, according to the Commission website, his term had ended in September last year.
Manoj Patel and Bhatt are retired bureaucrats. Patel retired as additional secretary from the Department of Energy and Petrochemicals and had a long association with former Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja as the latter’s personal secretary. He had retired in November 2022 but was given some extension.
Bhatt retired as additional secretary from the home department in 2020. He was given three extensions after this and continued working with the home department during that period.
Iyer is a former member of the Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB). He was also the GSSSB chairman in September-October 2021. A government official said Iyer is an expert in business law and education.
A state government official said that the appointments will be for three years or up to the age of 65, whichever is early.
